What's Your Elevator Speech?

An Elevator Speech is a short persuasive speech about a person, an organization or group, or an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the idea that an elevator pitch should be possible to deliver in the time span of an elevator ride, approximately thirty seconds to two minutes

My elevator speech changes depending on who I am talking to. If I am trying to let someone know about my cancer specialty and my work it’s one way and if I am trying to secure participation or event sponsorship it’s another way. Here they both are.

1) Hi, I’m Katie Brown and I’m a lung cancer patient advocate. Did you know that lung cancer claims more lives each year than breast, prostate, colon, and pancreatic cancers combined yet gets the least funding? 1 in 2 men will get cancer and 1 in 3 women. I work with LUNGevity Foundation and run the largest online support network for those affected by lung cancer and I also facilitate the only lung cancer specific support group in the state of Texas. If lung cancer has affected you in someway I can help. Here’s my card.

2) Hi, I’m Katie Brown and I’m the event coordinator for the DFW Walk 2010 happening this November. It benefits LUNGevity Foundation for lung cancer research. Lung Cancer is the deadliest cancer killer claiming more lives than breast, colon, prostate and pancreatic cancers combined with the least funding. Many people don’t know that 60 percent of lung cancer cases are of non smokers and never smokers so we are ALL at risk. I’m trying to raise awareness and research dollars with this family fun event. Every dollar raised is DOUBLED and every dollar raised goes directly to research. I’d like to invite you to join us as a sponsor, team captain or participant. I also need volunteers too. Let me give you a brochure.
